Perfume World: Building a Strong eCommerce Presence in Bangladesh with AWS

Overview
Being a top-rated brand, Perfume World was thriving to ensure a remarkable eCommerce presence in Bangladesh. And that is where the journey begins.

Bangla Perfumes Distributors Ltd. launched its largest perfumery chain in Bangladesh, Perfume World, in early 2009 with the goal of introducing the world’s most famous branded scents to potential consumers and creating a market niche for branded perfumes in Bangladesh.

Currently, Bangla Perfumes operates nine Perfume World stores in the largest shopping malls in Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet. Perfume World is a fully tailored fragrance retail enterprise. Despite its significant retail presence, the company did not have any online presence.


Challenges

The challenge for Perfume World was not only to begin online sales but also to establish a strong digital identity and attract customers online. This continuously growing online customer segment needed proper attention. Therefore, the company aimed to design a scalable, robust e-commerce site leveraging AWS.


Solution

The development team implemented a comprehensive AWS-based solution:

  • Amazon EC2 (Linux): Provided scalable cloud infrastructure with 99.9% availability, simplified instance maintenance, and included a load balancer for enhanced scalability.

  • Amazon RDS: Enabled deployment of scalable MySQL servers quickly and cost-effectively, allowing Perfume World to focus on application development while AWS handled database management tasks like backups, patching, and monitoring.

  • Amazon S3: Allowed storage and retrieval of any amount of data from anywhere, with industry-leading scalability, availability, security, and performance.
